The IP address ( or Internet Protocol address ) is a unique number given permanently or no to a device like computer, phone,modem,printer or any other connected device to identify it in a network using Internet Protocol to connect to other devices ( another phone, another computer...).

Most devices connected to the Internet use version 4 of IP addresses ( or IPv4 ) or above ( IPv6 ).
